Research dataset of the Copper Age cemetery at the Pilismarót-Basaharchttps://hdl.handle.net/21.15109/ARP/P2NHB3Bölcsészettudományi Kutatóközpont Régészeti IntézetARP2024-07-192026-01-29T14:00:34ZThe dataset contains the retrospective analysis of research data from a unique Carpathian Basin cemetery uncovered at the Pilismarót-Basaharc site, established in the second half of the 4th millennium BC. In addition to the Copper Age cemetery, the site also revealed a Celtic settlement and cemetery, as well as an Avar-period cemetery. The excavation of the site was conducted by the staff of the Institute of Archaeology of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences as part of rescue excavations preceding the construction of the Danube dam. Between 1967 and 1969–1972, under the leadership of István Torma, a cremation cemetery with 110 graves from the early phase of the Late Copper Age Baden culture was uncovered. The cemetery, associated with the Boleráz group of the Baden culture, is the largest burial ground known to date within the culture's distribution area. The excavation documentation and handling of the finds were carried out in accordance with the technical capabilities of the 1970s.
