We generalized the Parratt method, which is used to calculate X-ray and neutron reflectograms of isotropic multilayer systems. Our extended method is also applicable to anisotropic systems. Such anisotropic systems could be handled only using the transfer matrix methods until now, which may have numerical instability problems for thick samples. Our new method presents no such problems.

We implemented the &lt;b>new generalized Parratt method&lt;/b> in the &lt;a href="https://www.fs.kfki.hu">FitSuite program&lt;/a> developed by us (version ≥ 2.3.0). We made several calculations in model systems, utilizing the transfer matrix method and the generalized Parratt method to compare them.
