Dataverse for Biological Research Centre. The HUN-REN Biological Research Centre, Szeged (HUN-REN BRC Szeged) is an outstanding institution of the internationally acknowledged Hungarian biological research. The HUN-REN Biological Research Centre was founded in 1971. The 4 institutes of HUN-REN BRC - the Institutes of Biophysics, Biochemistry, Genetics and Plant Biology - employ about 260 scientists whose work is hall-marked by highly appreciated international scientific publications and patents. The research topics include several fields of molecular and cell biology from the industrial utilization of bacteria through controlled improvement of cultivated plants to the problems of human health and environmental protection. HUN-REN BRC is mainly a scientific basic research centre, but scientists of HUN-REN BRC play an initiative role in the foundation and promotion of biotechnological companies, as well as in educational duties. The successful activity and high-level scientific research pursued in HUN-REN BRC were also acknowledged by the European Molecular Biological Organization (EMBO) and in 2000 the European Union awarded the title of “Centre of Excellence“ to HUN-REN BRC.

While antibiotics are the main weapons to fight and clear bacterial infection, they can also select for resistant pathogens and disrupt the human gut microflora. Although these ‘collateral damages’ are recognized, we currently lack antimicrobial strategies to break the vicious cycle of antibiotic resistance by counteracting the spread of mobile res...

Zoltán, Hegedűs, 2026, "Reanalysis of Omics Data", https://hdl.handle.net/21.15109/ARP/WG85Q0, ARP, V1
The rapid proliferation of high-throughput omics technologies has led to an unprecedented accumulation of publicly available biological datasets. While the technical possibilities of reanalyzing such data are widely recognized, the legal, ethical, and institutional frameworks governing their reuse remain complex and often underappreciated. This ess...

Our research is focused on the elucidation of the molecular mechanisms regulating NVU functions under physiological and pathological conditions. By using different in vitro models of the BBB and in vivo systems, presently we are investigating the role of the NVU in age-related processes and and brain metastasis formation.

Zoltán, Hegedűs, 2026, "Datamanagement in Multiomics Research Projects", https://hdl.handle.net/21.15109/ARP/3EBOQB, ARP, V1
The integration of multi-omics datasets—including genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, metabolomics, epigenomics, and single-cell modalities—has transformed molecular biology into a data-intensive science. While analytical and statistical frameworks for integration have advanced rapidly, the foundational constraints are increasingly infrastructur...

Feb 19, 2026Core Facilities
Proteomics has become one of the most exciting and dynamic research areas. Since the genomes sequenced failed to answer several questions, systems biology research started to target other biomolecules. Proteomic studies aim to decipher structural changes of proteins and protein complexes, their role in different interactions, biological functions a...
